Aww noo! la nina back in place for this year. how confusing.

Hmm I wonder if that will impact the Met Office's 2009 prediction.  It all depends on how strong the La Nina is and how long it lasts.

 

Of course September-November 2008 was the 3rd warmest Sept-Nov on record during a period where the La Nina subsided, so we can use that fact if anybody starts making an issue of a few cool months.

looks like they were basing it on a 'weaker la nina'.

My guess is that this will still be the case, because the 2008 La Nina was quite strong.  Although your sciencenow link has a graph which makes it look like the current La Nina is approaching last year's in strength.

This by the way is a chart of El Nino (positive, orange) and La Nina (negative, blue) strength over the past year from NOAA.
