Peugeot and Citroën are shooting for production of diesel-electric hybrids by 2011.  Given the fuel efficiency of diesel cars, many people have expressed curiosity about the potential of a diesel-electric hybrid.

The Peugeot at least seems less than impressive.  The Peugeot Prologue is claimed to get 52.3 mpg and 109 g/km CO2 emissions.  Compare that to the 2nd generation Prius, which gets 46.5 mpg and 104 g/km CO2 emissions.  In other words, the Prologue in 3 years will meet the standards of today's Prius.  Weak!  By that time Toyota will have unveiled the 3rd generation and plug-in models of the Prius.
