How green is your toilet?

As some of you know, last month, Huddler HQ got a Swash Ecoseat from Brondell.  Before that, we had a Sink Positive greywater system...but it went to live somewhere else for a while.  Well, now it's back.  And our Huddler bathroom is seriously green.

Now, our toilet has gotten a little intense with both the Sink Positive and the Ecoseat...so intense that the Huddler boys want to name it something scary.  Right now it's the "Mega Can."  But we're definitely open to suggestions.

Here's the run-down of what we've got...

  1. Swash Ecoseat from Brondell
  2. Sink Positive (the deluxe kind)
  3. EO hand soap (but we need some new soap, so I might grab some more Dr. Bronner's at Whole Foods today)
  4. Method air fresheners (we actually have both the aroma pill and the aroma spray)
  5. Eco Discoveries bathroom cleaner
  6. Whole Foods 365 toilet paper (for those times the Swash Ecoseat doesn't quite cut it)
  7. Seventh Generation recycled trash bags
  8. Reusable hand towels (I don't think they're organic cotton though...hm...)

Mine's pretty similar.  I've got a BioBidet, Dr. Bronner's hand soap, just ordered some Dr. Bronner's to use as body soap in the shower, EO hand sanitizer, Seventh Gen. cleaner, various natural shampoos, etc.  Hoping to get a Sink Positive for christmas too.

Of course, the Huddler bathroom kicks my work bathroom's butt :-)  Also, somebody took down my 'these paper towels came from trees' sticker!

There are no words for how wonderful that picture is.  I think it might need to be incorporated into the Huddler screen savers... ;)

The only thing I can say about this picture is that boys will be boys... ;)

HAHAHA that is hilarious. one thing that's missing from my set up is the recycled trash bags -- excellent!  i usually just reuse plastic bags that end up in my hands (i'm sometimes guilty of not bringing my own bags when i go grocery shopping spontaneously).

I admit that my home toilet is not very green; although, we do reuse plastic grocery bags for our trash and do what we can to conserve water.

On the other hand, at work I was introduced to the BioLet composting toilet. Its nice to see a company care enough about the environment to install green toilets for use. Although they still use paper towels and simply throw them away. A little is better than nothing at all however. Besides, I tend to spend more time at work than at home anyway : /.

Yeah, we use plastic grocery bags for our bathroom trash bags at my house too.  It's funny...that's actually one of my mom's biggest pet peeves.  If we're ever out grocery shopping together, and if we go down the trash bag aisle, she'll always talk about how she doesn't understand why people specifically buy bags to get thrown away (especially when plastic bags are so common in this country).

I have to admit...we do buy trash bags for our kitchen trash can...but I'd say we probably only use one every two weeks (between myself and my housemates).

Its surprising just how many people I talk with do not reuse plastic bags for trash bags, storage, or other uses; they just throw them away.

I get laughed at a bit because I love shopping Amazon and getting their shipping boxes. The boxes are perfect for organizing storage in the bathroom, closets, etc. American society really is thoughtlessly wasteful. I have saved a lot of money over the years using shipping boxes, bags, and other sorts of containers for storage.
