GU-10 base bulb alternatives?

I just bought a house and moved in last week.  The first thing we did was replace all the bulbs in the house with CFLs (the previous owners had 75 watt bulbs in every fixture, this made the bathroom especially hot since theres no AC vent in there - not to mention they were overloading everything with such high wattage bulbs) but the kitchen has track lighting that uses GU-10 bulbs and are even hotter and harsh on the eyes than the 75 watt bulbs.

Ive tried both the local Lowes and Home Depot but neither have anything and claim that nothing like that exists.

Im sure there has to be something, either CFL or LED out there.

While hot, I'm pretty sure halogen bulbs are more efficient than incandescent. Not sure how they stand up against CFLs or LEDs though.

UPDATE:

okay a google search for "GU-10 LED bulb" yeilded quite a few hits.

Also, here are the google results for GU-10 CFL bulb.

www.EarthLED.com has LED bulbs to replace with - kinda pricey tho.  ...actually and LED currently on the marked that gives off warm strong light is expensive.  CFLs are available also - probably mostly on-line.  You might try:

www.lightbulbsdirect.com  or  home.altenergystore.com

You should at least be able to get good ideas of what to expect selection and price-wise from these sites.

Good Luck!

the cyber guys link in my first post is a GU10 LED bulb and it's only $20.

I have no idea about the quality or anything but that sounds cheap to me for an LED bulb?

I doubt you will get even 100 lumens from that LED lamp, which would not be even as bright as a 10-watt halogen lamp.

The best GU10-based LED lamps I have found were from LEDBulbBizz on eBay.

If you have to fit in an enclosure that is meant to hold an MR16-sized lamp, the best I've seen so far is 315 lumens (for daylight white, less for warm white), I have several of the E26-based version of this lamp (in daylight white) and it is quite good, and the most efficient LED lamps I have so far at 90 lumens/watt:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2x-GU10-LED-CREE-XR-E-3w-WHITE-or-WARM-315-Lumen-110V_W0QQitemZ190217939526QQihZ009QQcategoryZ20706QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

If the GU10-based LED lamps do not have to fit inside any kind of enclosure, there are 600-lumen lamps available:

http://cgi.ebay.com/GU10-LED-CREE-10W-Elite-2-75-WHITE-600-lumen-110v-220v_W0QQitemZ350075552508QQihZ022QQcategoryZ20706QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I have three of those (in daylight white) and am pleased with their performance.

There are very few GU10-based CFL alternatives and none I'm aware of that will fit inside an enclsoure meant for an MR16-sized lamp.

Well, Thank you for the information Ill look into those.

I think it might be cheaper and easier to just replace them with lights that take normal bulbs in the future.  They are kind of gaudy "futuristic" looking lights anyway, doesnt suit the house at all.

Replacing the fixtures to allow E26-based lamps is definitely an option worth considering since there are many more options for E26-based lamps compared to GU10-based lamps.  But I would still advise using LED lamps or at least Compact Fluorescent Lamps due to how wasteful of power incandescent lamps are (EDIT: never mind, I see now from reading your first post again that you are already using as many CFLs as you can).

I made up a webpage with pictures of some of the LED lamps I have in use around my house, I'll post it here in case seeing these pictures helps you in your search for energy-efficient lighting alternatives:
