Announcement of Tesla sedan tomorrow - not the Whitestar?

Just came across a post on a tech blog (Techcrunch) suggesting that Tesla is making a big announcement alongside the Governator about an electric sedan that will be ready in 2010 (even moreso the Year of the Electric Car now)...apparently it's not going to be called the Whitestar and is actually some type of partnership with the state of California.

We'll keep an eye out for details - post if you see or hear anything!

Oooh fascinating - we'll have to see what they say tomorrow!

So the big news is that the state of CA granted Tesla a $9M incentive package to keep manufacturing right here in the Bay Area instead of in New Mexico as they had originally planned.

"The company can buy the equipment from the state at the end of the lease term but would not have to pay sales tax on the purchase, said Tom Dresslar, a spokesman for the state treasurer. That would save Tesla as much as $9 million, he said." from SFGate

The next step is how we finagle a tour of the facility...

Well not as exciting as I'd hoped, but that's cool they're going to keep the manufacturing in California.

This comes from Engadget:

Our favorite Terminator (and Governor of California) Arnold Schwarzenegger has just helped Tesla Motors make an announcement that's probably sending chills through traditional automaker's boardrooms. The company has just introduced a fully-electric, five passenger sports sedan dubbed the Model S, which will be selling for $60,000, and will manage 225 miles on a full charge. The carmaker says it will produce the vehicles in a brand new manufacturing plant it's opening in Northern California. We're on the ground at the announcement right now -- no pictures or release date have surfaced yet, but you'll know more as soon as we do.

So I guess we're calling it the Model S and not the WhiteStar then?

Will the second generation of this vehicle be called the Model T?

Hahah, let's hope so.

Although...I can't really imagine that they'll call the car the Model S...what an un-sexy name.
