ViaTreeHugger:

CARB just revealed the state's new 'environmental label', on which a vehicle's global warming score (greenhouse gas emissions) and smog score will be displayed.

The cars will get a scale of 1-10, the higher scores meaning they're more fuel efficient and cleaner burning.  All new 2009 vehicles will have to feature the new labels, which will begin to pop up starting as early as next month.

That is a fantastic idea.

Why can't CA just annex the rest of the US? ;)

That's very cool!  A great way to increase consumer awareness.  Now we just need a ubiquitous labeling system for everything else!
