Jim Wollschlager sees the contents of a garbage can differently than most.  Where many see just a heap of apple cores, coffee grounds and soiled hand towels, he sees the potential for dollar signs and a cleaner environment.

I love this.  I think that all the sanitation companies should do it.  About 25 percent of all trash is organic waste, and for some businesses (like restaurants) about 80 percent of trash is organic waste.  We would save so much landfill space...

I think a lot of the waste here in the Mid West is incinerated, so it's better than just slowing the rate at which landfills fill.

Hmmm....interesting.  I wonder if a company wouldn't buy it from him to make compost to sell.

I would think that if his business is becoming profitable, that must be at least partially because he's selling the compost to someone?  I would think that local farms would love to get their hands on large quantities of ready made compost...

It might be a good idea for someone in a small town to start as a business.  It would even be easy for kids to do.

I might have to see if I can talk the kiddos into the idea.   Can't you just see kiddos on the side of the road with a lemonaid style stand selling compost!! LOL!!
