Hi all! I'm new here, and just got through reading the earlier thread on homemade solar panels, which was very informative. I've been looking into solar panels or wind turbines for my church. It doesn't look too good at the moment due to cost. But I'm curious - if I did tackle making panels myself, and as I'm retired I would have the time, what am I looking at in terms of total time commitment to make enough panels for a 5 KW system, which is what I'm told the building would need? and roughly how much would all the materials cost? I've been trying to add up prices but it's hard to find the info, as there's so much variety. And if we did buy them, does anyone know how many square feet of roof would be required? We can only use part of our roof as most of it needs to be replaced, and we have maybe 500-600 usable square feet.
I don't think the wind turbine would work, as we're in Seattle where there's very little. But I would be interested in suggestions. Thanks!
