Americans throw away about 25 billion coffee cups every year. This means disposable coffee cups account for 18% of U.S. waste. To manufacture these23 billion cups we need 14 million tones of wood, gathered from 9.4 million trees and the industry requires 5.7 billion gallons of water to make them. Have you ever thought about how harmful these cups can be to our environment? Most of our coffee cups, even those “eco-friendly” paper and Styrofoam cups contain a material called polystyrene, a form of plastic that is not bio-degradable, and if it is not recyclable then it is harmful to our environment. It is harmful because it stay in oceans and land for hundreds of years.

Disposable cups Live Longer Than Humans... Fact 1. The average length of time for Styrofoam cups to disappear is about 500+ years. And as long as they exist, they release hazardous substances, which pollute the environment. Fact 2. Using disposable cups is harmful to our health. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, coffee cups are “reasonably anticipated to be carcinogenic”. Many studies in lab found humans are exposed to damages in white blood cells which may raise the risk of cancer by using Styrofoam. Now, do you still want to use these harmful cups?
