What Products??

I manage a small town pharmacy-variety store.  I was wanting to get an endcaps worth of "green" products.  I'm not sure what kind of market there is out here in the middle of nowhere for these items.  I figure at the very least I would buy the stuff.

I want to start with a small selection.  The shelves are 4ft wide and 24inches deep.  There will be 4 shelves total.

What do you guys think would be good sellers in a rural store??

I don't have a wholesaler at this point for these type of products.  I thought about buying online (free shipping) and marking up just a dollar or so to get the products in the store.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It might be worth trying to sell a waterless car wash like Eco Touch.

Maybe some all purpose cleaners like Biokleen and Seventh Generation.

Maybe some dish soap like Dr. Bronner's and Biokleen and Mrs. Meyers.

That's all stuff that everyone can use.

Hi Herodrx1,

I'm excited to hear how your endcap does in the store.  I recommend MiEnviron line of cleaning products.  There are just three items in the brand -  an all-purpose cleaner, an air-freshener, and a bug spray.  The company supports retailers with volume discounts of up to 40%, and 50% once per year.  The products are reasonably priced and are top of the line.  I really think ONEgroup is the premier green company in the global marketplace for many reasons, which I won't go into. BioPure has an extensive Wiki with all the info you could ever want about it.  You can become a retailer here if you meet the retailer criteria (no big chain-stores, etc..).

Also, Co-op America is a comprehensive Green Pages, akin to the Yellow Pages.  They are a great source of info for local or regional greentailers.

Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Those Green Pages are really great!

I'll let you guys know how sales go.  I'm hoping that there might be other closet "treehuggers" hiding among the rednecks out here! LOL!! I guess we'll see...

Maybe start with some of the better known brands, like Tom's of Maine, Kiss My Face, Burt's Bees.  They should have some name recognition at least, which might help curious buyers choose to try something new.  Maybe get toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, lotion- those were some of the first things that we started buying green.  Dr. Bronners is great because it can be used for so many things- I usually see it for sale with personal products rather than dish soap, and I know a lot of people use it for hand soap/in the shower.   If you do stock some cleaning products, 7th Generation probably has more name recognition, so you could get an all-purpose cleaner, a dish soap, and a laundry soap...

I hope the sales take off, and you are able to expand your product lines soon! :)

How about you sell re-usable shopping bags? This will cut donw on plastic/paper bag waste. Plus it can lower your costs for buying bags to give to customers.
