I recently was given a gift from my mother-in-law which was a grow-your-own-baby-food package, including vegetable seed packets and a baby food processor. At first I was skeptical, but I now see that that may have been more due to it coming from my overbearing mother-in-law. But thank goodness I kept an open mind, because I found the package and process to be so exciting and healthy, not to mention low-cost and environmentally conscious.
I don't need to go into the benefits of saving money and the environment by growing your own food at home, but doing so for your baby is something that not many people consider. It is very easy and cost-effective, and can even be a nice continuation of the pleasure and bonding that occurs with breast-feeding, after the baby is on to semi-solids, as you can feel the nurturing feeling of planting, harvesting, and producing your baby's food! Very rewarding indeed! And at costs of pennies a day, you can't afford not to!
The best thing about it is that you can then use this knowledge for producing the same type of organic vegetables for your family beyond just baby food, and do it all from a set of storage containers on your deck/patio or planting in ground in your home garden. I feed my family (of 4) delicious, nutritious organic meals every night for an average of about $1.25 per meal - in these economic times you really can't beat it.
I have found the best source is the same place where my mother-in-law bought my package from, and it is http://www.arkinstitute.com where I continue to shop.
they have a great site and a store that includes seed packages for everyone from beginners to experienced gardeners, and books and how-to's to get you on your way fast!
visit them at http://www.arkinstitute.com and start serving yourself the best organic produce available.
Best wishes,
Kristin
