Take Away Coffee Cups: Plastic or Paper?

Every morning, I buy a take away coffee and feel bad about the pollution that I help create, because I chuck out the cup afterwards. At the same time, I wonder whether buying a plastic cup would really make much of a difference in regards to my carbon foot print?

I have seen these cute cups http://www.trendspotting.com.au/2010/06/08/keep-cup-keeps-you-happy but am sure that it will take years and years for that material to decompose. Do you think I should simply go for it and buy myself a couple of plastic cups? And do you know whether it makes a big difference in regards to pollution?

I'd probably be opt for a stainless steel coffee mug and a convenience store that provides discounted prices for refills when you don't use their paper cups (as we have here in NJ) ...

Cell phones ... great concern!  There are services that collect and recycle cell phones and batteries - some companies distribute them to seniors for emergency services ......

Reusable coffee mugs are by far more eco friendly than using disposable cups everyday!
