Building and Decorating with Recycled Materials

One of the greenest things you can do when you are building or remodeling, is to keep building materials and fixtures from ending their days decomposing on a nearby landfill, polluting the soil and water.

 

Recycling and re-using building materials can not only help the planet. It can help you save a ton of money.

 

While doing my research I found this non-profit organization in MD that collects and sells used building materials, cabinetry and fixtures.

Eugene, Oregon (where I live) has a lot of awesome things like this. 

 

BRING Recycling is a great resource for building and decorating; we've gotten a lot of awesome finds there over the years, and it's cheap!

NextStep is a place where you can recycle your old electronics, buy refurbished electronics, and they also recycle certain kinds of plastic that recycling centers don't currently accept.

Finally, there's M.E.C.C.A., or "Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts." This is a place where you can get recycled art supplies and lots of craft items and ideas, which is great because they save a lot of usable goods from going to the dump!
