Another reason for banning pickup trucks besides the obvious impact on the environment:

I have never been a big fan of pickup trucks.  Besides the obvious, many of them requiring lots of gas, it just seems that if you are not into construction, what is the reason of getting one.  All the wasted space in the back of the truck. I know this is probably a girl thing, but I don't see the purpose of having a pickup truck unless you need to carry extra equipment.  

 

I traded my large SUV in for a Ford Focus some years ago.   I love the car.  Not the fastest or best looking but very reliable and good on gas.

I drive a big pick up truck because I haul stuff all the time for my garden, chickens, building projects and for hauling my home built offshore fishing boat.

This truck has a diesel engine which gets maybe 30% better fuel economy than a similar gas engine powered truck. It has the power and overall towing capacity that a smaller vehicle can not come close to.

Did I mention that this truck runs on B99 BioDiesel that is produced locally from locally collected recycled used restaurant cooking oil? I buy a large enough quantity that I can go two months between trips to Sirona Fuels in Oakland. Sirona charges less than the going rate for petro diesel, and their Biodiesel is up to 70% less polluting than Dino Diesel. Smells good too.

The truck has just under 200,000 miles on it, and should easily go double that if I take good care of. I wonder what its carbon footprint is versus a new Prius or other modern car.

I love pickup truck because of it's a perfect for transportation without sacrificing the quality or safety of your ride.

I agree. I need a pickup truck. My job recuires it. But still... I hope in the futer all of us will be able to use some kind of pure energy ^^"
