Exterior Solar Blinds

I'm surprised no one had mentioned these screen-like products installed on the outside of east, south or north facing windows to dramatically cut the amount of UV rays from the sun entering the home.

We installed ours this spring from EZ Snap and the difference was amazing. It immediately reduced our temperature by 15 degrees F.

And, you can still see outside with these exterior solar blinds installed.

We've written several articles on our blog about these fantastic products. If you are interested you can find the first article about our experiences here:

This is a new product from this manufacturer this year. Other manufacturer's I understand have had their's out for a couple of years.

Solar blinds are great!  We're definitely hoping to expand the Green Home categories soon to include building envelope products, ranging from insulation to windows to solar blinds.  Those are all really integral elements of building design to reduce energy consumption.

As an update, we kept the EZ Snap solar screens on the outside of our windows all winter because with the sun being so much lower in the horizon during the winter time, it still would create excess heat build up without them in our south facing kitchen eating area and famiy room.

The materials didn't fade, or frey around the edges.

I see the manufacturer's site now has a 20 year warranty on them.
