Replacing my bathroom vanity light, should I get a permanent GU24 CFL fixture or traditional?

Hi- looking to replace my bathroom vanity light.  Was initially going to get a fixture with GU24 twist and lock CFL sockets, that will only take CFL bulbs.  One friend, who is an architect, mentioned to me that screw-in CFL's don't work great retrofit in all lights, since the lights weren't designed for CFL's, and sometimes early failure will occur, which is why I was doing this.  I've had about a quarter of my screw in CFL bulbs (different brands) fail on me in different lights, so that's why I was thinking about this.  Also, the existing fixture doesn't work with the new paint, etc., so I'll be freecycling it.

However, with the growth of LED lighting, I'm not sure if this is the best route.  Any input or thoughts?  With the directionality of the LED's, I'm not sure how ideal they are for doing makeup, etc.  I'd like a traditional looking bar light with frosted shades, nothing too modern.

So, GU24 CFL light fixture, or traditional?  Which would you choose?

Thanks!

Are they coming straight off the vanity or overhead?  LEDs are great for overhead lights.

Tracey, I got some LED globe bulbs from Tuwago.com, that are supposedly designed specifically for the bathroom vanity mirror fixture. 1. they are damp rated so you can safely use them in a bathroom even if it gets foggy, humid, wet from steam. 2. they have a nice round white glass diffuser that spreads the light evenly so its not like directional so its ok for when you're up close to the mirror, e.g. for makeup. 3. soft warm white light , very easy on the eyes and provides great color rendering.

have about 9 sockets above my mirror and used to use 9 CFL's, now i've replaced them with these LED globes.

Drawbacks: 1.  they are not dimmable, but that wasnt an issue for us since our bathroom didnt have a dimmer switch. 2. at over 30 bucks they are much more expensive than your regular CFL.

oh, each one uses a little over 9 watts compared to the 23 watts i was using on each CFL

another option is the ecosmart brand in home depot. i tried one but despite being shaped like a globe, the light came out very directional and was not spread out which actually was not easy on the eyes especially when the bulb it right above your head.
