Furbabies diet

Furbabies..babies..  This will probably need to be moved.. but for those of you with furbabies what kinds of food do you feed them or do you make their own food?

During the big pet food recall we went searching for healthy alternatives.  Although Purina wasn't involved in one of the recalls I'm suspicious that their recipe change..but same great taste wasn't the best for my cats.  It's strange because we've raised cats to be in their 20's but my two boys died this year a couple weeks apart from stomach cancers.  They were barely in their teens.

Oh yeah, diet!  Sorry about that..I tend to stray from topic but I have beagles and would love to hear what you feed your pets.

JoeS, a furbaby is a cute word people use for their pets. :)

I feed my cats Taste of the Wild's Rocky Mountain feline formula. It's grain-, corn-, and soy-free, with venison and salmon. It's a bit more expensive than the conventional brands you see in super markets, but my cats have never been sick, have great coats, energy, and their poo is much less stinky because the ingredients are all things cats can digest, as well as shelf-stable probiotics for digestive health.

I've noticed a lot of companies put a lot of grains and high-carb ingredients into their formulas as fillers, and it's hard for cats (who are carnivores that don't have naturally high-carb diets) to digest. Another aspect of cat food I'm highly aware of is ash content, which, in high doses (like most conventional pet food) can lead to urinary tract problems.

I try to give my pets the highest quality food that I can afford, even if it means I eat a bit more rice and and potatoes! :)
