Hello i am Pablo Prieto from México and i think i have an idea that can literally chance the world.
First I need to know how much would one person would be willing to pay a year to sponsor the protection of 1 tree, yes ONE tree in a rainforest down in Chiapas Mexico, 1 tree is part of an ecosystem and can home over 200 different lifeforms. Now buy sponsoring your tree you´ll be part of a green community with your account you'll get information ( name, age, hight, etc..), gps coordinates, pictures, etc, monthly updates on your tree and the community. All these will be in a digital green map where you can locate your tree and people will be able to communicate with their ¨ tree neighbors¨ - hey i sponsor a Ceiba Tree - nicee i am sponsoring an Oak and two Wilows, one with a big birds nest. - Grate!---- etc. The idea is to grow a big green comunity.. hey even if you fly down to mexico you can go and look see how your tree is doing and stay in a green station... but the big question is .. how mucho would people be willing to give to be part of these green social community by sponsoring their own tree...
i know at the beginning it can sound risky to give some bucks to a mexican dude some where in de Jungle... But the as why we think it can work its because we will create a social community around this idea that will be monitoring the existence and longevity of the tree ... Lets say you ¨buy¨ or sponsor a tree, not any tree you choose a big Ceiba. in that moment you´ll get a full description abut the tree: age, size, scientific name, GPS location, even picture, picture, etc.. this i can say is a must in every sponsoring program. Now the interesting part comes in, lets say Axel from Germany ¨buys" the tree next to yours. in that moment your notify and are put in contact. He´ll get the same data about his tree and every month or periodical time you'll be getting updates on your tree; size... if a sweet bird is doing its nest on a branch, or if its winter and all the leafs just fell, etc. Also it be grate if we could instal a small whether station so all the community can see whats the temperature, humidity, wind, web cam, etc... it will be something like an ECO BIG BROTHER... and all the community can monitor and socialize knowing that they all have something in common and giving them confidence that they can go online and look at how their support is behaving. It will also give scientist and enthusiast to participate in the project... it will defiantly need a green station where all this data can be collected.
Now the idea is not to plant trees. The idea is to protect rainforest that is in risk of being extinct by human activity.. usually this is in the outskirts of national parks etc... and if you say why Mexico? well Mexico can be a good starting point. if this works.. imaging having the chance in the future to choose between a Ceiba in Lacandona Chiapas or... a Baobab Tree in the Kongo... that would be grate! we think if it works this can be a model that can be replicated world wide
