Bush and DOT attempt to circumvent Congress and States

We're all aware that Bush and the EPA deny California's waiver to enforce legislation to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, with repeated attempts to get around Congressional oversight by providing redacted documents in repsonse to subpeonas.

Now apparently the White House and Dept. of Transportation is attempting an end-run around Congressional intent and states rights by burying some fine print on page 357 of a proposal for more rigorous CAFE standards as required by the energy bill passed last year.

There's more about it from Grist and Global Warming is Real (disclaimer - GWIR is my own blog)

Bush is trying to portray himself as "doing a lot for the environment". It's more along the lines of what Bush, the EPA, and now the DOT is trying to do to the environment.

Yeah the Bush environmental strategy has been consistently to seem like he's doing something good while in reality taking the most minute steps and preventing real action from being taken in the future.  Just 9 more months...
