The other day, Nissan unveiled the pricing of the electric LEAF, starting at $32,780 for the base model, not including tax credits ($7,500 federal, $5,000 California).

In response, Mitsibishi announced it's cutting the price of their electric MiEV, targeting a sub-$30,000 starting price when it's released in the USA.

So Nissan seems to have set the bar for electric car pricing. It's possible that GM will introduce the plug-in hybrid Volt at a lower-than-planned price later this year as a result as well in order to remain competitive.
