Bush has unveiled his plan to finally begin to address the USA's huge impact on global warming. As a basis for comparison, the countries which ratified the Kyoto Protocol (that would be every industrialized country except the USA) agreed to reduce their collective greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% as compared to 1990 levels by the year 2012.
Bush's plan...let's call it slightly less ambitious. He wants the US to halt the growth of our greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2025. So this is 13 years after the Kyoto protocol deadline, and he's not suggesting we decrease our emissions by that point, but that we stop increasing them. In 17 years.
My reaction was pretty similar to Barbara Boxer's.
"Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Environment Committee, called Bush's new climate strategy worse than doing nothing ... the height of irresponsibility.'"
Just 9 more months of this idiocy....
