İ really question how effective he has been. He gave himself a B+ for the year which was quite generous in my opinion.
Up until now much of the approach has been to push things through as the majority (plus 60 in the senate) was there. Now the 60 is gone plus mid term elections coming up - the approach will have to be considerably more toward the center to get anything through. Many of the Washington crowd are far more worried about getting re-elected than anything else.
Desirable or not - for the next fifty years or more coal will be an important part of the overall power mix. The work to reduce emissions farther needs to continue. Nuclear is probably in for the long run - or at least until some new 'disruptive' technology comes along.
People are remembering campaign promises about openness, back room politics and pork which have gone by the wayside. The openness is better but still very much lacking. Hopefully Obama can get back on track there. İ really hope he can step on Murtha and his pork buddies. This has gone on forever by both parties and to date no one has even made a real attempt to correct things - except talk.
One of Obama's big problems (and that of most politicians) is that in campaigning he was everything for everybody - delivering on that is not possible.
