There are several ways of making our own air fresheners. You can find easily over the net. I have tried this one.. You can give it a try too...
a few drops of your favorite essential oils to a spray bottle of water or the vinegar-water mixture mentioned above, or to some baking soda. Mist or sprinkle on the carpet accordingly to neutralize odors and sweeten the air at the same time.

Well, last year Method recalled one air freshener, although it looks like their new ones are in non-aerosol cans, which is good. I haven't tested any of their air products so I'm not sure how safe they are, but as saminiazi noted above you can make plenty of your own homemade air fresheners. Even if you don't want to go full charge ahead with green cleaning products air fresheners are one thing you should consider making yourself, because many that say they are safe aren't.
Recently NRDC tested 14 different brands of common household air fresheners and found that 12 contained phthalates. According to NRDC, "Only two, Febreze Air Effects and Renuzit Subtle Effects, contained no detectable levels of phthalates. The products that tested positive included ones marketed as “all-natural” and “unscented.” None had phthalates in the list of ingredients or anywhere else on the label. The three with the highest level of phthalates were Walgreens Air Freshener, Walgreens Scented Bouquet, and Ozium Glycolized Air Sanitizer."

I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, meaning that many chemicals, artificial fragrances, preservatives etc., cause adverse reactions, ranging from headaches dizziness and confusion, to contact dermatitis and shortness of breath.
Method Products cause me to react. I use Attitude products. So far I have tried their laundry detergent and have no problems. The the choice of fragrances are agreeable, I would have no hesitation recommending their Air Fresheners.
I have also seen them here in local pharmacies and drugstores. They are more economical than other organic products in this catagory and in my experience with their detergent, more economical than leading non-organic brands.
Hope this helps.
