Oil Crisis

Thread Starter

The Earth's total endowment of oil, before humans started using it, was roughly 2 trillion barrels of recoverable oil. Consumption has been rapidly increasing and about half is used up. Consumption is currently 31 billion barrels each year. Crunch the numbers and you will see the oil gone in 32 years presuming the rate of consumption does not change.

Crunch the numbers and you will find you know nothing about the future. No one can say exactly what there is out there.

The statement in the preceding post is intended to try to create panic or what? I fail to see any purpose for it.

New energy sources are being developed and use of old ones being optimized. One of these days renewables such as solar and wind will be developed to the point of being more than just an expensive curosity. The times that are coming will require changes from us all - OK but so what?

It goes without saying that one should not be wasteful with the resources available to us.

I agree, I'm not sure what the main point of your post is aiyana. Although I do think we need to seriously consider that resources are not endless by any means. I also agree with Russ, more people are going to realize we have other options and use them eventually, and hopefully yeah, they will go down in cost.

Well, while a lot of oil resources are depleting, there are good things happening in the Oil and Gas sector too. Did you know that there is a company in India that has innovated in their oil and gas drilling which led them to win an Innovation for India award by Marico Innovations Foundations!

I call that a huge turning point for this industry! They decided to explore for Oil and Gas in the east of India, where there had been no traces. If you want to read more about this, check out this slideshow.
