"Art Farm" Redefining Vegetarian Sensibility By Inking Oinkers

Despite the fact that I occasionally eat a little meat, I believe that all creatures great and small deserve respect and a good quality of life.

Perhaps I was born with the heart of a vegetarian, though, because everything about Artist Wim Delvoye's "Art Farm" rubs me the wrong way.

The native Belgian, who himself happens to eschew all meat in his diet, creates his livelihood out tattooing live pigs and then selling their inked skins (or completely stuffed bodies) to the highest bidder.

After reading the text of the article and looking at all of the photos, please share your thoughts on whether you believe this is art, animal cruelty, or somewhere in between.

Wim Delvoye - Didn't look at the link - anyone into tattooing pigs is beyond anything I am willing to look at!

He is just your standard fruitcake making a living from other crazies. To me the strange part is that anyone would buy his stuff.

Apparently a lot of wealthy business people are "into" purchasing Delvoye's status-imprinted skins and then they send them onto a luxury goods maker to craft them into high-end one-of-a-kind fashion accessories. Frankly, it disgusts me that he has been allowed to profit from this practice for so long. What ever gave him the idea to tattoo pigs is beyond me, but it does seem cruel and very wrong. There is such a disconnect happening between art and basic respect for living creatures.
