Whole Foods Boycott

You might have heard about or already read this article written by John Mackey, CEO and co-founder of Whole Foods critiquing Obama's health care plan. If you haven't, here is the article:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB20001424052970204251404574342170072865070.html

People who shopped at Whole Foods understandably are confused and feel deceived since they assumed that a business that sells organic tomatoes for $5.00 a pound was automatically some kind of ethical business. Hence the boycott.

What do you think? Should Whole Foods be boycotted because of John Mackey's views? What do you think of his alternative to Obama's plan?

Personally, I am not that surprised at his views, Whole Foods is a business and John Mackey just found a need in the market that he filled, I did not necessarily expect him to be a liberal. However, I did not expect him to be such a  #*&%  either, providing his employees with a ridiculous insurance plan (cheap for him but with such a high deductible that people are actually paying for their health care). So I think I am not going to Whole Foods for a while. Besides, his arguments are not even intelligent. Anyone who knows anything about insurance in this country and with any kind of experience of health care in another, anyone who bothers to think anyway, will see that his arguments are nothing but cliches and his solutions are convenient to the rich ONLY.

So let the debate begin!

Hi Eris, You are paying some party 5 USD per pound of tomatoes and get upset with him about a personal position on health care?

From the local farmers market I pay about 1 USD per kg - don't know if they are organic as I have never asked. At 5 USD per pound I would buy something else or forget about tomatoes.

Last I heard people were allowed to have their own opinions which he was stating. He has never made a secret of his politics - he has previously described himself as a free market libertarian.

In the last week people have been upset and calling for action against:

1) Kimberly Clark
2) Del Monte
3) Whole Foods
4) SIGG
5) don't know as I don't follow most of the articles

But people are in favor of:
1) e-fuel microfueler (which has had no real scientific review is most likely a scam as the energy balance seems to have done by Peter Pan using pixie dust)
2) hydrokinetics - placing turbines in canals and rivers to make immense amounts of power
3) bicycles with fairing for rain protection which would make them hard to ride and more unsafe due to cross winds
4) rutabaga power  (turnips for biofuel)
5) solar flowers - not exactly an optimized layout for a solar panel
6) a power plant in Italy using expensive refinery produced hydrogen - there are better, more productive and higher value added uses for the H2

Coca-Cola is on the good list because they showed up to politely listen and say they were not planning on doing anything. Meanwhile they keep on selling the sweet drinks people are upset about on other days.

It is a strange world we live in!
