oh dear.

Warming Of Arctic Current Over 30 Years Triggers Release Of Methane Gas


time i tooled down to southampton and blagged a job at the National Oceanography Centre. even sweeping the floor. some good research coming out of my local uni, dont know whether to cheer or cry.

Indeed.  Atmospheric methane has actually remained surprisingly stable, but it's only a matter of time until the permafrost and other sources warm enough to emit significant amounts.  There have been signs recently that this is beginning, this study being another.

oh gawd. here we go. there were worrying reports last year, i have been waiting for this. i'm applying for a research job on peatland response to temperature, we might be able to do more about releases from land sources (e.g. drainage; seeding with insulating mosses and grasses; or grazing by large mammals, to save the permafrost ), but this, what can we do? i think its a very serious area.
