'Intelligence Analyst' - is that the new 'Scientist' we have to see references to when an unnamed source is used because the writer needs a source when none is available. 'Policy Makers' have always been one of the parties to be blindly and safely credited.
It makes for a lousy article when writers start to editoralize in supposed 'news'. The author, John M. Broder, does not seem to be a specialist in the military area from a list of articles he has previously written. Seems to be a envioronment writer with no military writings that I saw. I guess I did see one article about Michael Jackson so I guess he is not environment only.
It is the business of the military think tanks to war game any and all potential threats. This is not new despite what spin the writer tries to put on it. I expect people in the know could tell you the emphasis has not changed much at all.
I also doubt the present gaming emphasis has changed a whole lot since Obama came in. The programs are laid out well in advance to the best of my knowledge - meaning years and not months.
