Electric and Cordless Lawn Mower!

I recently posted regarding that the Southern California Air Quality Management District (AQMD) was having another trade-in program for gas powered mowers to get heavily discounted electric mowers. You could choose between the two sizes available from Neuton, or a Black & Decker model as well.

I got the Neuton 5.3 for only $100!!!  I am now fully electric for my garden power tools... WOOT!!!  My kids think it's really cool - actually the wife as well.  Even neighbors have come by to check it out.

Once I got past the 72 hour initial charge (i thought that was kinda long also), I took it for a spin on the lawn... well, actually - i waited nearly 3 weeks after the charge to mow for a couple reasons - like I was busy.

Anyway - the battery had plenty of power even after sitting a while and it mowed great!  The lawn was on the long side so I had my concerns, but it did it all easily and did not feel like the charge was running out at all.  Quite quiet as well - sounds like a fan.

I was impressed.

You can check out the Neuton site here.

Sweet deal, SoCal!  I'd love to get a Neuton for $100.  I got my Black & Decker electric mower used for like $75, but it's got a cord so it's not as cool as the Neuton.

Although it is a great program and I applaud them for it, I actually believe I would still pay the difference for a Solaris. They are 21 inches wide instead of 19 and self propelled is available.  The 2 inches doesn't seem like much but I let a friend that had a Neuton try mine and he said it cut so much faster it was unbelievable.

I also like being able to charge it with the solar panel, Zero energy!  Don't get me wrong, I would love to see everyone use a battery mower, I just am so impressed with the Solaris!

The solaris is really cool, but I have a very small lawn... I have the 5.3 which is only 14" wide and I am trying to store it in my garage, so I prefer the smaller footprint.

To charge it by solar would be awsome...
