Dubai Syscraper to Integrate a Solar Thermal Tower

The Almeisan Tower that's been designed for Za'abeel park in Dubai has a planned solar thermal tower on the roof.  That's right - not solar panels, but a solar thermal tower!

I'm all about solar thermal technology.  It's usually proposed for use in deserts on large scales, and putting one on the roof of a tower is a new idea.  Cool stuff!

That's really cool. Are there plans to actually build it?  I remember seeing a post about some concept green sky scraper but I don't think it ever got built.

On a more general note, do you think it's greener to build up rather than out? Urban sprawl's not a good thing but I guess the "up" would have to be done well to be better in any way.

Yeah they're planning on building the tower.  Hopefully they follow through.

Up is definitely greener than out.  The less space people take up, the more efficient and less wasteful.  Less distance to transport everything when people live close together.

Innovative.  I hope they build it.

Do you know when it's supposed to go up? Hopefully it will be successful and inspire other similar buildings.
