Convergence of Data

Much like evolution, the theory of AGW seems to rely on a convergence of scientific data from many different fields of study.  Which fields are involved (and what do they contribute, if you want to go into any amount of detail)?

When I worked in the steel industry I was always amazed at the 'reasons' excessive power was consumed in melting the iron ore. The guys in the melt shop were far more interested in proving it was someone else's fault than trying to determine the real problem. They would come up with all sorts correlations with inane and impossible causes which suited their purposes.

With the use of select data or with ignoring inconvenient data you can prove or disprove most anything.

No use arguing with idiots - just nod your head and try to work on the ones who don't have their mind made up. They are the ones that count anyway. Middle ground is where everything is gained or lost. The extremes are somewhat meaningless except for the nuisance valus.

Obama won because of the centerist vote. McCain lost because of the centerist vote. The extremes of either party may be necessary to win for that party but they will not get you into office. Same for global warming - try to do what is possible.

Michael Shermer (actual skeptic-not denier) compared AGW to evolution in that evolution brings together evidences from geology, paleontology, botany, zoology, biogeography, comparative anatomy and physiology, genetics, and so on.  Climate scientists, similarly, use info from the environmental sciences, planetary geology, geophysics, glaciology, meteorology, chemistry, biology, ecology, and other disciplines.
I think this is why it's a difficult for some to accept, because they are looking for that "one study" that "proves" global warming, when no such thing exists.  It's a failure to think in macro terms.

It's true that climate science brings together all sorts of fields.  Atmospheric physics, oceanography, geology, vulcanology, chemistry, even fields like biology (as the biosphere has a large influence on the climate), and so on.
