An Inconvenient Truth

What did people think of this film?

Personally I thought it did a good job getting the basic science right and making it understandable for the average person.  The parts about Al Gore weren't really necessary, but probably made it more watchable for the general public.  It did get a few details wrong and wasn't specific enough in some places, but overall I thought it was a good introduction to the science.

There's also the controversy about showing the film in schools.  Personally I don't think there were any errors significant enough to make it inappropriate for showing in schools, and an accompanying explanation of the minor errors is probably a reasonable compromise.

Dispite my distain for Al Gore, I actually liked the message that this movie had to offer.  I like that the movie has sparked such a change in people and that the "green" message has been so widely broadcast.  I simply don't like that politics have become increasingly interwoven with going green, and having the vice president be the poster boy for this message is not helping that cause.  I would love to get away from the idea that environmentally sound =democratic because even if it is the case in many instances, everyone can benefit from this message, not just one side of a political arguement.

It is unfortunate that Gore has become such a focal point for those seeking an excuse not to take any personal responsibility for their own environmental impact.  I have to give Gore a little credit though - he has taken a lot of steps to make his home greener.

The thing is that with an issue as big as global warming, it has to be a political issue in order for us to achieve the greenhouse gas emissions reductions necessary.
