New analysis says sea levels won't rise as much?

Or so says the NYT today...

Quote:

A new analysis halves longstanding projections of how much sea levels could rise if Antarctica’s massive western ice sheets fully disintegrated as a result of global warming.

The flow of ice into the sea would probably raise sea levels about 10 feet rather than 20 feet, according to the analysis, published in the May 15 issue of the journal Science.

The study's author, Jonathan L. Bamber, is apparently getting mixed reactions...but even though Bamber is saying it's not going to be AS bad, it'll still be bad enough that people should be worried.

Thoughts?

Hm that's interesting.  From a practical standpoint, the difference between a 10 and 20 foot sea level rise is the difference between really really bad and really really freaking bad consequences.  So really the rate of melt is what interests me more than the amount which could ultimately melt.  But still, interesting that there's this uncertainty, because I thought the amount of water in the Antarctic ice sheets were well known.
