SOLAR MIGHTY-LIGHTS:

A friend of mine is the founder of the nonprofit organization "One Million Lights," and their first initiative is in the area of solar lighting, with a focus on education.  Their goal is to distribute one million (1,000,000) solar lights to schools, children and adults around the world. One Million Lights is a part of the World of Color public charity, a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Palo Alto, CA.

Sounds neat.  I'd like to see more communities work on increased efficiency of street lights.  Street lights are often installed to dissuade crime, rather than light the streets, and brighter lights seem better for that purpose, so I think progress in this area will be slow.  NYC is already using LED lights for some traffic signals, so there is some work going on currently.
