Al Gore gets "greedy" and Blackburn doesn't know him

Thread Starter

It looks like on Friday, Al Gore had some fun times with Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn when she insinuated that he has monetary motivations behind his advocacy of a green economy and cap-and-trade legislation. Blackburn asked him first if he was aware of the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins (in which Gore is a partner). She then went on to ask if Gore stands to make money off of KP's investments into cleantech (or "40 companies that are going to benefit from cap-and-trade legislation").

Gore responded by saying, "Congresswoman, if you believe the reason I have been working on this issue for 30 years is because of greed, you don't know me." Here's the whole video. Worth a look:

Classic.  Hard to imagine Gore getting convinced that invading Iraq would be a good idea.

It shows the danger of going after someone intelligent using only right-wing blogosphere talking points as ammunition.

Funny you should say that.  A quick Google search netted several blogs under the headline "Representative Blackburn Puts Gore through the Grinder", and other such titles.  Of course the clips they provide have Rep. Blackburn saying a nice intro buttering up her constituents and talking about "family" and "trust".   It also stops before she makes a complete fool of herself.

Thanks for the clip!

Hah that was really good.  I love her backtracking "I'm not accusing you of anything".  What a load.  Great response from Gore.

Yeah, I like that he said, "I understand exactly what you're doing, Congresswoman, everybody here does."

There's a brief article written about it over on Green Inc at the NYT.  Hahaha...the first commenter (one Pom Pom Girl) says:

Quote:

I dont’ believe he is working for greed I believe it is simply an effort driven by his ignorance. He invented global warming and needs to support it to stroke his ego’s belief that he is such a genius.
Gore needs to pledge that if it all turns out to be wrong, he will give back the Nobel Prize and the money he won.
Al, put your money where your mouth is.

Yeah sadly there's a significant percentage of (ignorant) people who actually believe Al Gore "invented" global warming.  Talk about being divorced from reality.

There seems to be a lot of jealousy (perhaps) over his insight and accomplishments.  He is usually one step ahead of the rest of us.  Whether it be his pushing of legislation paving the way for the internet, his joining the board of Google or his being out in front of the global warming issue decades before most people, he just continues to demonstrate a business intellect which he combines with a drive towards a better future through reinvestments and technological breakthroughs.  You'd think he would be held in high esteem for his work by proponents of business and the environment alike.

"If you think it's about greed....well IT IS".  Greed is good for America especially when a few well placed and well financed gazillionaires like Gore and George Soros and David Rockefeller, etc. will reap even more gazillions of American taxpayer dollars on "green" crap that will no more help the environment than shoving a democrat up a cows backside to stop the leakage of methane.  Follow the money.
