TerraCycle and Mars: turning more wrappers into cool stuff

Looks like TerraCycle has just set up a new partnership with Mars Inc. to reuse their packaging oto create new products.

This comes from GreenBiz:

TerraCycle has further expanded its reach into the waste stream through a partnership with Mars Inc. that will help TerraCycle reuse packaging from Snickers, Altoids, Big Red and many other brands.

The partnership with Mars encompasses a wide swath of Mars' food, drink, candy, gum and dog food products.

TerraCycle will be use both surplus and used packaging from the products, with Mars sponsoring collection brigades for its packaging waste.

That's very cool.  I wonder what types of products they'll be coming out with...particularly with the gum wrapper packaging.

Haha, maybe they'll do something like calculator covers or something.  I remember back in middle school thinking it was so cool to peel off the silver from gum wrappers and sticking it on my calculater.  Quite the rage.  :-)

Seriously though, it'll be interesting to see what they come out with.  What do you think the brigades will collect?  Candy packaging would probably be pretty easy.

This doesn't really have to do with the Mars partnership (which is great, by the way)...but I noticed that Whole Foods is collecting corks as well.  Are they partnering at all with TerraCycle to make those corkboards?  Or are they competing now for corks...

Did they also just team up with Frito Lay?  Or has that been in place for a while?  Read this in Eco Child's Play:

TerraCycle has teamed up with Frito Lay to collect used packaging from FritoLay snack products- Doritos, Cheetos, Tostidos and other chip bags and turn them into affordable upcycled products- folders, tote bags, purses and pencil cases.
