I was poking around on the Sierra Club website the other day and I came across this bit on air fresheners:
Phthalates are a particularly dangerous type of chemicals found in some air fresheners. They are hormone-disrupting chemicals that can be particularly dangerous for young children and unborn babies. Exposure to phthalates can affect testosterone levels and lead to reproductive abnormalities, including abnormal genitalia and reduced sperm production.
I have a Method air freshener in my house. I guess they call it aroma spray. In any case, I was curious to see if I could learn more about the ingredients so I googled it. The very first result is about a recall. Did any of you guys know it was recalled?
During routine testing of our Aroma Spray, our Quality Assurance Team identified a contaminant in the formula. This contaminant is a common bacteria found in our drinking water, food and soils and is very unlikely to cause harm to healthy people. While our test results indicate there is unlikely to be a risk to the general population, there may be some risk to those with compromised immune systems, so we have voluntarily withdrawn our product while we obtain greater clarity around this issue.
