Now that Yahoo Answers has resumed updating the top answerer lists after over a year of failing to do so, we no longer have to see Jello listed as top answerer atop the Environment or Global Warming categories. The evil reign is over!

To update this story, Jello had a couple of lackeys (Randall and Scorpio) asking about a dozen "questions" per day just for the purpose of giving him best answer. So he regained 'top answerer' status by about 20 votes at one point. They've slowed down a little now though, and I've pulled to within 7. Which basically tells you that almost all of Jello's "best answers" are coming from those 2 saps. I was surprised I got so close, because they gave him another half dozen or so yesterday.
So we'll see how long they can keep up their sad little tactic of constantly asking rhetorical questions just to keep Jello atop the list.

I think that may be a wasted effort. Some of them are obsessed with being seen and viewed as Top Contributors. They have no problem skirting the system. I think SWC created another account as a female named "oops". I'm guessing he's making a run at TC status.

Yeah at one point I tried reporting all of Randall's questions when he asked a dozen in a row. I don't think any of them got removed, because technically no individual question violated the rules. I specified in the comments that he was asking dozens of rhetorical questions, but I don't think the YA staff cares. I even contacted another Yahoo staff member I know, who said there's probably nothing they can do about it.
Basically they've found a loophole in the system where they can play games and abuse the site with no consequences, as long as they have enough time to kill. Speaking of which, Randall seems to have disappeared, but Scorpio seems to have taken up the slack. I think it's pretty clear they're not the same person, but they seem to have the same goals.

What a shame. It completely defeats the purpose of having people vote if there are others scamming the system and abusing it for their own means. If Yahoo can't come up with ways to moderate people who are doing that or alter the system so that there are limitations on how many times you pick someone for best answer in a given day (I'm just making things up), that's sad.

Indeed. I think the voting system cheating has pretty much stopped, which is nice. As recently noted, the new scam is just for a few individuals to ask a ton of rhetorical non-questions and give best answer to the same person every time. This is a pretty annoying tactic because it clogs up the site with a bunch of questions from the same person, pushing everyone else's questions back and off the main page more quickly.

I think randall may have gotten his account suspended again. I had reported him about half a dozen times for cheating the system and answering my questions even though I had blocked him. As far as i know that kind of cheating the system is a big no-no.
But yeah, scorpio has pretty much taken his place, and is all the more annoying for saying he is open minded and free thinking--yet in an email he admitted to having blocked over 20 AGW proponents from his questions. Real 'open minded' there bud.

Yeah I'm wondering if Scorpio is Randall, and he's just acting differently so as to fool people into thinking it's not him. SWC hasn't been around that long, at least in global warming, but he's got over 3600 answers and 350 questions. If it is Randall, he's doing a good acting job. Randall wasn't bright, but SWC is a freaking moron.
The 'top answerers' list hasn't been updated in a few days, which is good news, because I haven't gotten many best answers but Jello has from SWC. He's probably back at the top again.

Now Randall is back (5 questions today) and michael ninga boy has joined the ranks of the Jello lackeys asking a bunch of questions and giving him best answer every time. Pretty soon I'm going to have to switch from calling them physics flunkies (PFs) to Jello's b*tches (JBs), because it seems that at this point their only goal is to keep him in the top answerer spot. Really it's quite pathetic. They just think it's all a game, especially ninga boy.
I've started reporting SWC, beacuse I think Randall may have gotten banned for asking so many rhetorical questions, and frankly I'm getting sick of the lot of them.

Let it go. It's not that important.
Read the latest publications from the NAS, UNEP, position statements from the White House, and focus on the discussions here. That's where the action is. Y!A is pure entertainment with as much relevance to the real world as The Transformers have to national defense.
That said, losing at a game sucks, but the skeptics play dirty and in most games cheating is a very effective strategy if there is no enforcement of the rules. But there is no loss of honor from walking away from a rigged fight.

Agreed. It may seem worthwhile if we justify it by claiming that we may help a fence-sitter better understand the situation, but that is simply wishful thinking. It may be time to move on.

Unfortunately they probably read the posts here, laugh, and ask even more questions than they would if they hadn't read it. I know ninga boy reads this thread; I wouldn't be surprised if he checked it every day. I don't know if SWC has found it yet but I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it too.

Quote:There are more interesting windmills to fight, is all I'm saying. Duking it out with climate skeptics on the internet, as I've learned from bitter experience, is an exercise in punching pudding. You land solid blow after solid blow but at the end, it's still pudding and hasn't changed a bit. If you like that sort of thing and are doing it just to get fit that's fine. But in a larger sense it is pointless, the pudding itself doesn't care since it is too stupid to know it's been clobbered (it is, after all, only a pudding), and the only spectators are other puddings.
Personally, I can't think of enough good questions to come anywhere near the skeptic totals. But what is amusing is by asking a couple a day once a week, I tie them in knots, and get to read some semi-hysterical stuff from them in return, suitable in most cases for "Climate Skeptic Retard of the Week."

Don't you mean punching jello? :)
post #25 of 374/17/09 at 12:08pmThanks to those who got me connected up with this site and thread-I could not figure out what was going on over there at Y/A with all the meaningless and inane questions and comments from certain people, but now I see that Jello has reclaimed his 'top spot' by colluding with SWC to manipulate the system. It makes sense now that I see what has been discussed over here, I could NOT understand why SWC was choosing Dr. J's answers as 'best' when there was no analysis or real content, sometimes it was just a couple of words and BOOM (so to speak haha) as soon as Jello posted the best answer was given to him and the question closed.
Man-doesn't Yahoo see this?
Anyway-as a non scientist who is interested in climate change and alternative energy (I chose a wind turbine as my avatar to start out because I am into the wind energy business on a couple of levels and I can see probably 100 turbines from my front yard), thanks for helping keep guys like me up to date on what is going on. I'll probably remain compelled to comment on the word games that are going on over there.

Welcome to Huddler, Boom!
This is exactly my point - Yahoo won't see this behavior unless it's reported to them. That's why I'm reporting SWC's questions. In the explanation I count up the number of questions he's asked in the past day and say I'm reporting them due to point gaming, because he's asked 12-16 questions in the past day and almost all best answers have gone to the same person.
Maybe it's a waste of time, but it only takes about 5 minutes, and I'm really tired of them clogging the site up with their games.

SWC is seriously a moron, and a hypocrite. He sent me an email once and so I was able to talk to him a little before he blocked me among the rest. Here are some of the things he said:
Quote:April 1: Well, I look at both sides I guess, I'm skeptic but yes I think Global Warming concerns everyone... I agree with both who believe in GW 100% and skeptics, I look at both sides I guess
Quote:April 13: I blocked you because I don't believe co2 causes GW. I unblocked you [he didn't], but how do I know you aren't going to give Dana, and the 20 others I blocked my questions, which they cannot read....?
Then this:
Quote:April 4: I have only been studying and looking into GW and GC for a short time
Quote:April 1: I started studying Global Warming in 2000
...signs of a learning disability, perhaps?
