New NRC report on policy response to climate change research

I was mentioning this to Dana offline, but the NRC report on change in emphasis in climate research has been released:

http://www.nature.com/news/2009/090304/full/458020a.html

Full report here:

So, when you "debate" skeptics, if you must, point out to them that as far as the policy is concerned, the debate over the science is over, and really to be part of what is relevant at this point the discussion should be on policy options.

In short, skeptics lost the science debate, although "lost" is far too weak an adjective.  Crushed might be better, but doesn't really get across how weasily they all look now.  It was very amusing to see Schlesinger refuse to engage Christy in a discussion of the science.  That would have been like seeing Pauli engage an internet crackpot on whether quantum mechanics is wrong.

It's good to see the debate moving beyond causes and toward effects and how we should address climate change.  There's really no point in indulging 'skeptics' in the debate over the causes anymore, because as gcnp said, they lost that scientific argument, whether they want to admit it or not.  Even skeptical scientists like Christy and Lindzen don't dispute human-caused warming.

Nice, that report has some really good info on things like hurricanes and droughts.  I'll have to spend more time reading it later.

Good report.  I've read the summary so far.  Page 3 describes the key problem (2nd paragraph of New Framework... section):

Since this is an issue with clear policy implications, we need a more effective bridge between hard sciences, social sciences, and policymakers.
