CFL color to match halogen?

I went to my fav big box store to start the process of replacing my CFL floodlights and I feel a little overwhelemed on the various "colors" they offer which I think corollate to the color temperature of the bulb.

 

I currently have Halogen floodlight that I love since they produce a fairly "white" light vs the yellowish of tungesten and the olive/blue blah of fluorescent.

 

Does anyone have the same ligting preference and some opinion on what type of CFL most closely matches halogen floodlights?

Depending on your situation, I would consider a LED bulb instead of a CFL. The LED will have a longer life, will be instant on, can take being turned on and off a lot and will have a true white color. CFL's also contain mercury which LED's don't have. You can check out www.environemntalled.com for high quality LED light bulbs.

The par 38 is a pretty good flood light, but it's only about the same as a 60 watt incandecent.

I pondered LED till I saw the price tag. I'm not ready to be that bleeding edge.

 

Granted, I've had mixed results with CFL's and have yet to find a bulb I'd want in a  heavily used room (so far all my CFL's are on the outside of the house).

Yeah, buying LED bulbs is kinda like buying a hybrid car. You are paying more upfront to save more down the road. Personally, I only use them in lights that we have on all the time, or lights that get shut on and off all the time. I will be switching our 4ft tubes in our shop over this year so we can have better lighting when it's cold out and I'm just waiting for someone to run a pole into a bulb!
