Wow! I saw another Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle in Illinois!

They tell me that there are only about 200 PHEV's in the USA right now.  After school today as I was traveling down the highway, I ran into another PHEV from California!  I was very excited and raced ahead of them and started honking, trying to draw attention to my 100mpg sticker on the back of my 2007 PHEV Prius.  I think they must have thought I was crazy, but they did wave back. Man, what are the odds of two PHEV's meeting on a highway in Illinois.  It was fun!

Back in 2005 (I had bought my Prius a few months earlier here in CA), my job required me to drive around Ohio and Michigan for 2 weeks - lots of driving time on highways and even rural roads.  Only saw one hybrid - a 04 Civic - the entire time.  Granted there were not as many hybrids at all then, but in CA there were thousands of Prius' (Prii?)...

So two PHEV types meeting up in Illinois by chance is pretty unlikely.  They are even kinda rare out here in CA.  I can only recall one for sure on the road... maybe two ever.

Yes, it was very exciting!  I'm all about electric cars and mileage.  We have two priuses and are adding a solar array at home to help power up the PHEV.  In a couple of years I am going to upgrade to lithium.  That's why I chose the Plug in Prius company.

What a small world!  I was just informed by Steve Woodruff of Auto Be Yours that this was the owner of Pluginconversions and they figured out together that it had to be me!

One of my students spotted another PHEV in our neighborhood when he was working at McDonalds.  I believe it is yet another one from Auto Be Yours like mine.  It was baby blue and had the same decal on the rear bumper that I have.

That's so cool!  I've seen a few of the CalCars around the Bay Area...  They're ones they've converted...but all the ones I've seen actually belong to that company (meaning they're painted with the CalCars website like the one below).

This is a plug-in hybrid Prius converted by CalCars

For folks who can afford it, I think it's a better option to get a normal Prius and then convert it rather than waiting for the 2010 Prius, considering that "EV mode" only gets you what...a mile of all electric driving?

Maybe you saw me!  I have a 2004 Civic Hybrid and I live in Ohio.

Could be!  It's so much fun to drive the :PHEV and now that gas is easing back up...I am getting a lot more inquiry.  Funny how that works.
