Ford promises electric car for 2011

Ford announced that they'll have a commercial electric van available in the US in 2010, followed by an electric car in 2011.  The car will be based on the Fusion and marketed in urban areas. They're aiming for the car to have a 100 mile operating range and a production run of between 5,000 and 10,000 units.

Good to see another big automaker jumping on the EV bandwagon.  It would be great to have a 100 mile per charge pure EV from a major automaker in the next few years.

Totally, and I like the van concept.  And that's really impressive they're supposed to introduce it so soon, this summer.  It will be interesting to see the specs on that bad boy.  The question arises - if they can produce an electric van, why not an electric car?  But assuming they follow through with this electric car concept, that answers the question.

Oh yeah my bad, you're right.  2010 for the (electric) van and 2011 for the car.  But still, it seems kind of counter-intuitive that they could get a big electric van developed before an electric car.  But maybe it's easier because they don't need to produce as many for fleets.
