How green will Obama's inauguration be?

Well...it's about that time.  Bush has already made his farewell speach.  Obama is just shy of being our president officially.  And that's right....tonight it's the Green Inaugural Ball.

It looks like the idea of the ball is to showcase folks in the green movement and environmental politics.  Organizations on the host committee range from the Earth Policy Institue to the Alliance for Climate Protection to Sierra Club.  I'm certainly not going to be there, hanging out with Al Gore and will.i.am but...it looks like the event will be broadcasted online at 10:15pm EST tonight on the event's website and blog.

According to the Examiner, VIP guests will be shuttled in EVs like the GEM e4.

Anyone know about the EVs that were possibly going to appear in the parade?

The EVs got rejected from the inauguration parade, so they had their own parade this weekend in Santa Monica.

A lot of people (conservatives) are claiming the inauguration is hypocritical because despite green efforts, it will still have a very large carbon footprint.  My response to that is even if this is the case, at least the Obama inauguation and balls are taking the environment into consideration and trying to be green.  If nothing else it's an important symbolic gesture, more than any previous inauguration has done, and a key indicator of the Obama Administration's priorities.
