With inaguration right around the corner, we just can't help but talk about our president-elect Barack Obama.  In the media, there's speculation about everything from his economic policy to what his daughters will be wearing for the big day.

But what do you think his environmental policy will (or should) include?  Renewable energy?  Climate change stuff?  Green collar jobs?

As part of his economic stimulus plan, Obama has proposed $50 billion for a green stimulus.  As with his energy and climate plan, it covers everything from transportation (i.e. plug-in hybrids and electric cars) to efficiency to renovating old buildings to renewable energy.  And I agree that we need to cover the whole spectrum of environmental issues to make up for the damage done over the past 8 years.

I saw another article on this topic about the fact that "Smart Grid" focused technologies are ear-marked for $11B of that stimulus.

I have to say that the stat that up to 7% of electricity that we generate is lost in transmission is a pretty compelling reason to be investing very heavily in our grid infrastructure.

Totally, and investing in smart grid technology also allows us to become more efficient with our energy use and distribution in general.  It's really kind of a no-brainer, and great to see that it's being made a priority.
