Delays on smart car deliveries

Thread Starter

"We've heard stories that people are starting to receive their Smart cars here in the U.S., but with some 42,000 total deposits made, those of you who were a little late to the game are probably still waiting. Even some who were quick on the draw with their order have not gotten their cars yet. John Schwartz from The New York Times is one such person. After reading through the comments to his post describing the delay, it seems that many people are frustrated that it's taking so long for their cars to arrive, which is understandable. We hope that most of the early adopters can wait for their machine without canceling their orders, but for those of you who want to fast-track your way to the front of the line, consider looking around for a canceled order at dealerships close to you. It's a long shot, but at least one commenter at the Times got theirs this way."

I think they're starting to trickle into the market - I've seen 2 in the past few days and have followed through on keeping a camera handy. Check it out on the mean streets of Palo Alto - it really does look like it would be a lot of fun to drive (and to park in San Francisco...)

I've actually seen two in my neighborhood in San Francisco too (one yellow one about a week and a half ago, and a black one on Monday morning).  I'll have to pull a Deej and carry my camera around!

While I can understand smart Canada wanting to ensure the public didn't hear about a safety issue related to the smart as people already fear they are unsafe, but those who believe in the smart have been hit a little hard with all this smoke and mirrors and headlights.

I was wondering about the comments saying so few Smarts are around.  Then I saw the date- 2008.

Several are around Santa Cruz.  That "Smart" copy is around too.  What a difference a year makes!

The cars appeal to a wide range of consumers including first time buyers with a limited budget, urban dwellers in areas with tight parking, and empty nesters who don't require a large car
