Pros: nice compact design
Cons: needs to be pointed right at the sun to work
I got a Soldius charger as a grand prize in the second Huddler contest, and was pretty excited. However, so far I've been pretty disappointed with its performance.
My main problem is that I don't have a good place to put the Soldius outdoors. My dogs have free reign of the backyard, so I can't leave it somewhere out there. Plus I don't like leaving my electronics out in the sun. I tried to put it in a window that faces the sun in the morning, but it doesn't seem to produce very much charge in that setup. Sometimes it seems to be enough to charge up my wireless headset, but when I plugged in my cell phone and iPod, it did bubkus.
Once I tried putting the Soldius on top of the shed in my backyard with the iPod connected to it for a couple hours, but I didn't get it pointed directly at the sun, and it didn't charge up the iPod at all (which also got quite hot sitting out in the sun).
So overall I'm pretty disappointed. It seems like you have to have the Soldius pointed right at the sun for it to work, and I can't spend all day adjusting its position, even if I had an indoor location that received sunlight all day. I'll probably just use it as my headset recharger and hope it can produce enough energy to accomplish that much.
