Pros: soy based, doesn't get horribly hot, nice reusable candle holder
Cons: pretty waxy
I'm getting down pretty close to the bottom on my Scandle Body Massage Candle. I think I've got the calming blend. I like the scent pretty well, although it's a little strong. My boyfriend is not so keen on it though.
As for the candle as a massage oil, it's not bad but I don't think it's my favorite either. One great thing is that the wax doesn't get too hot. If it's been sitting for a while, of course, it'll be on the hotter side and it might surprise you when it gets poured on your back. But it certainly doesn't burn or hurt. And of course, no matter what, it's pretty nice to have someone giving you a massage. So nice that yes...I've gotten a little dozey. Whoops.
However, I found the Scandle candle to be a little on the waxy side after the stuff starts cooling off. Surprise, surprise, you say. It's a solid candle first! Of course it'll be waxy. Well, yeah, sure, but when I picked up a Good Clean Love passion candle, there was a pretty clear difference. With the Scandle one, I always ask my boyfriend to wipe down my back post-massage with a towel because I worry about getting wax all over my sheets and what not (some did actually get on my rather delicately colored bed spread once but I think it washed out ok - at least I haven't noticed since the spread came out of the laundry). The Scandle wax doesn't really absorb that well into my skin even though theoretically it's a body lotion candle.
There are other things I do like about Scandle though. They have nice reusable candle holders and they sell refills so you have less waste there. And the holder has a nice little spout on it so you don't get wax dripping all down the side of the thing. And you can definitely control the wax pouring a little better. The holder also comes with a lid which I haven't used too much. Even though there's an opening with the spout, your flame will blow out if you put the lid on with the candle lit. I suppose perhaps it's meant to keep your wax liquified whilst you have no flame. But I haven't tried that out.
Anyway, long story short, it's not bad but I'm still on the fence as to whether I'll be ordering a refill.
