2007 Pontiac Vibe Base

Rated #11 in Gas Cars

This wagon, or its twin the Toyota Matrix, is an excellent alternative to the SUV.  While I would avoid towing, the Vibe has a very versatile interior.  The back seats, divided 40/60, fold completely down for storage.  Is the item long?  The front passenger seat folds down too.  Storage compartments, tie-down hooks, and small rails make the loading of a variety of objects simple.  Seating is comfortable for many people;  both front and back seats accommodate tall people.  Unlike the Prius, which has a slanting back glass, albeit to enhance fuel economy, the Vibe has a squared-off rear that makes loading non-triangular objects easier.

The car has a small four-cylinder engine with adequate power.  In a mixed driving environment with my automatic transmission, I generally get 28-31 MPG with little effort.  Reliability so far has been superb.

2007 Pontiac Vibe Base

The Pontiac Vibe is popular for its practicality, sporty styling and zippy performance in a five-door hatchback. The Vibe is powered by a 126 hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder that is mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. It can seat five passengers and comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Optional safety equipment includes antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, side-impact and side curtain airbags, and GM's OnStar. For 2007, the Pontiac Vibe only comes in front-wheel drive.
