Pros: Quiet, clean, cheap
Cons: Still having some initial problems

We have just used our Neuton CE 6.2 for the first time. Those who are shopping for this item should be aware that it is different from the earlier Neuton mower, and not just in that it is wider. The blade has been redesigned to raise the grass better and to mulch better. The poor mulching on the smaller Neuton was a common complaint we read when shopping for our new mower. We have been very satisfied with the mulching performance so far.

This morning we had a problem with the safety key. The Neuton comes with a key that must be inserted under the cover before the mower will start. It also serves as a circuit breaker if needed. The problem we have is not with the circuit tripping, however. When mowing, the safety key is working its way out of it's slot in the mower, causing the mower to dip into the yellow on the battery indicator, and the blade to slow down, then once the key either works its way out or is getting poor enough connection to trip the breaker then the mower stops. Called Neuton- their customer service is really easy to reach most of the time, usually little or not wait to speak to someone. (Although their hours are pretty short- they close at 5 eastern time, it is pretty easy to get a hold of them if they are open.)  They suggested that we use a pair of pliers and squeeze together the brackets that hold the safety key in. After doing that repeatedly with little results (key works its way out about every 10 feet or so, worse on hills), we called back and they offered to replace the mower. We will probably try that. I love the mower. It is quiet, easy to push despite the heavier weight of the 6.2 model, and of course it smells much better, too- just fresh cut grass. We mow very high- about 3 inches tall to conserve water and help the lawn fight the weeds off and the Neuton has a nice high setting. Unfortunately the problem we had this morning eventually prevented use of the mower without stopping every couple of steps and my husband ended up just using the last of the tank of gas in the gas mower to do the back yard. Will probably take a couple weeks to get the new mower- shipping from Neuton is kind of slow, took about 2 weeks to get the mower but they said when I ordered it that it could be 3 to 4 so I assume it does take longer for some areas.

Customer service says that this is a problem that a few of the mowers have had but that it is not a common problem. For now I gave the product four stars, because the little we've seen between stops and starts it works great! If it wasn't for this problem would have given 5 easy. Will update once we have the new one or the issue resolved.

Update 07/07/07:  We recieved our new mower a couple weeks ago.  Immediately it was clear that the circuit board was attached closer to the cover so that the safety key sits much more securely.  We have mowed twice now with it and we love it!  The mulching performance is still fine- although when we first used the new mower we had been without a mower for over a week and the grass had really gotten thick and high.  After using it with the mulching plug for a while we switched to the side discharge because the underside of the deck was becoming clogged often with all the extra grass.  Had no problems after that.

I upgraded score to 5 stars now that we have one that is working properly.  Gave 4 stars for Ease of Use because of course it is not self propelled, but otherwise is much easier to operate than a traditional mower, no priming or difficult starting.  We have recieved many comments from our neighbors while out mowing, its a great conversation starter and really gets people thinking about green issues in lawn care.

Pros: Easy start, cuts great
Cons: Long lead time, long charging time

I was very leery of replacing my gas powered mower, however my wife convinced me that I should give it a try, so I reluctantly ordered the Neuton CE 6.2.  I received the mower and it had a key malfunction (apparently, a common problem).  I reported the problem via the toll free number they shipped the replacement parts out immediately.  I put in the new parts and just finished mowing my lawn.  What a fantastic product.  It was well worth the money and the wait time.  This thing works great and we are doing something good for the environment.

Cons: no power does not cut well

I traded my gas mover plus 150 and regreted it ever since.   You are a fool if you buy this.  Its loud for an electric motor and it just does not work.  Its like trying to mow your lawn with a cheap weed eater.

The marriage with my CE 6.2 started in June of 2008. It's been a rough relationship. But wait, there's more: It's not made for St Augustine grass in the deep south. Even on the highest setting it struggles through the turf. I had to take the chute off and bungee cord up the chute door to get it to move. It doesn't like the humidity; parts have started rusting. I keep the battery inside the air-conditioned house so after 2 years it still works, but it acts like it's middle aged with less power. AND ... it had to be repaired 5 times, and is currently in a repair shop ... where it has been for 3 weeks. What problems have I had: it was DOA out of the box in 2008. It's replacement had a bad wheel and axle. Control module replaced because of arcing on the safety key holder. New front wheel. New switch on handle bar. Wouldn't start after getting hot. Chute dragging in high grass even on highest (#4) setting. How do I get my lawn cut? I use my 8 year old Craftsman corded mower. I'm thinking about getting a divorce from the Neuton.

It's a great concept, but it just can't take the heat.

Next year I'm going green. I'm getting a green gas riding lawn mower for about $200 more than I paid for the Neuton 6.2. Why? The customer service man at Neuton today told me to (true statement--his name was Art @ ext. 2150). Like my late father used to say "All's well that ends.".

Pros: Quiet with no trips to the gas station and no cord!

I have the previous model and have owned it for a number of years. I got the mower as part of a gas-mower trade-in program run by our local electric company. I think it cost me $100 - $150 dollars with the trade-in. It's probably been at least 4-5 years so I don't remember. I've never had a problem with the model that I have. It does have the narrower cutting path but it just means a little more walking. Our old gas mower was hard to start - this mower is so much easier to start. I would never go back to a gas mower. If I ever have to replace my mower, I'll look for the latest Neuton. I hope the one I have lasts for many more years!

Pros: No Gas! Lower carbon footprint. Can plug into our solar array!
Cons: None yet

Seems to be a good buy.  I bought a refurbished model.  Waiting till spring to give it a good view.  I am going to plug into my solar array.

Pros: Enviro friendly, Quiet, No maintanence
Cons: Narrow, lacks power, heavy

I've used it once and now I feel ripped off.  While quiet and enviro friendly it left me wanting!  The unit is far to narrow to be of much use at all.  The wheel base is outside the cutting chamber which means you have to over cut your wheel marks.  Unfortunately the mover is not powerful enough to pull the wheel trodden grass up to cut it well at all.  The handle grip has no locking device so if you are not gripping down hard on the activation bar the mower will shut off quickly....you have to backup and run it again.  While the sales pitch is that it is a light weight unit to lift, it sure doesn't feel like a light weight unit to push.

Pros: Quiet, no fumes, minimal maintenance
Cons: price

We actually have the previous model which is smaller and that is the only problem that we have with ours. Mowing takes a bit longer with ours since it's not as wide, but I will never go back to any other mowing! We can mow earlier in the morning and later at night because it is so quiet. We have a back up battery, but we can mow 2-3 times on one fully charged battery. Our yard is 3/4ths of an acre. Maintenance includes sharpening the blade and rinsing off the mower before storing in the winter. It is light and easy for me to control, and our neighbors are always asking questions and fawning over it. We have the extra edging accessories, but haven't taken the time to try them out yet.

I've used this mower to mow my .75 acre, twice, it was great, but it took two days, because I had to charge the battery overnight, I have since ordered a spare battery. Great Product. LB

Pros: no gas
Cons: I dont know where to start
my mower stopped working after one season. There is not service for it anywhere close…thats something I didnt think about before. I have the newer larger model. The weed eater attachment is a joke, It is not as light and quiet as they make you think. The handle/switch assembly is incredibly uncomfortable. The grass catcher is too small and I had to “engineer” it to make it work. It’s now just a $500 piece of plastic sitting in my garage. Their customer service is a joke. If you choose to buy one, make sure you rear the fine print. I would recommend some other mower.UPDATE: today while cutting  i notice something come out from under the mower..... IT WAS THE BLADE! yes, the blade came off my mower. Just another issue with this mower. I've read some of the other reviews, from people that just got their mower and they love it.... i felt the same way... I would like to hear how they feel in a year or two. buy a gas mower and save  your money.

I love, love, love this mower!!  I have a small yard, so this is the ideal machine.  It's lightweight and easy to manuver, super quiet and just as powerful (when fully charged) as any other mower I've used.

Pros: Easy, quiet, non-polluting, powerful, plenty of battery capacity, easy to clean,
Cons: none

I read the book "Lives Per Gallon" and learned about the nasty emissions from small gas engines. Then I went searching for a good electric mower.  I bought the Neuton 6.2 in 2008 and used it all spring, summer and fall.  I absolutely love this mower!  I will never again walk behind a gas engine mower.  It has plenty of power and battery capacity.  It is very easy to remove the blade for sharpening, and the battery for charging.  Well engineered, well built.  I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Quiet no gas or oil strong motor
Cons: Not enough suction to lift up grass when wet and pushed down by wheels.

I enjoy mowing the lawn and do not rush the job. If you can say this you will love the neuton ce 6.2. On the other hand if you look at it as a chore that you want done as fast as possible not caring about noise or polution by a honda. I still have my honda and living in washington state will probably always keep it around for the wet days. But I love the neuton it does a great job I can do my yard and the neighbors on one charge about 1/3 acre.

Pros: Lightweight, well designed blade, pull out battery, no pollution
Cons: needs 1 more notch for cutting grass a bit highter

I own a sustainable lawn maintenance company in the Bay Area and use the Neuton 6.2 every day. I really love it. It is a good looking powerful machine. I charge it with the solar panels attached to my truck so there are no emmisions at all! It will get bogged down if I am mowing wet or very tall grass but other than that it has a nice cut. I sharpen the blade weekly and the Neuton comes with tools right under the hood to easily remove the blade. The other great feature is how quiet it is. Neighbors are constantly thanking me. www.cleanairlawncare.com
