Pros: 100% non-toxic and biodegradable + super fun for kids
Cons: the knife with the set is not useful at all
My son got some Playmais about a year ago, but they quit making them. We recently found the same product under another name - HappyMais Building Blocks at Peek A Green. HappyMais are just Playmais by a different name. My son loves his.
What are HappyMais: Natural arts and crafts small building block material made with GM-free certified cornstarch and dyed with non-toxic food colorings. HappyMais stick together with water so there's no glue needed.
- 100% biodegradable
- For every box sold, the manufacturer makes a donation to the Earth Fund Association.
- If you buy from Peek A Green you’ll get a tree planted for your purchase.
There’s a boy’s set and girl’s set available but really that's a little silly because this is a multi gender toy. Sets comes with over 700 building block pieces in various bright colors, sizes and pre-cut shapes to help children make lots of nice creations, a natural cellulose sponge, a Mater-Bi knife (made from cornstarch) and a cardboard sheet with pop-out designs - flowers & jewels shapes for the girls or pop-out monsters & insects shapes for the boys. Either set would make a great gift or summer-time fun activity.
My son didn't like the knife that came with the set because it doesn't cut the pieces at all. Since that's what the knife is for, this is sort of a down side. Still, you don't really need a knife and the fun factor outweighs this one con.
